The Baby Gods Are Smiling

Today has been a good day and I feel like the Baby Gods must be smiling on us.  It's 80 degrees here and though it's too warm for this bay area girl it's the perfect temp for a little boy getting over a cold. After a sleep-limited night I woke up with a "what the hell" attitude and was determined to get out of the house even if that meant I would have to come right back.  Charlie has really been ramping up the fuss factor and Dr. Chan says he has "classic signs of colic" - GREAT.  So I loaded Charlie up today and headed out to target to get a few must haves on the shopping list (when I say must haves I mean MUST HAVES...toilet paper).  Target doesn't have a cart that will fit my car seat (or any other) so I put Charlie in the front pack carrier. Everyone knows I'd much prefer to click him right into his cadillac stroller so I wouldn't have to wake him but he went right back to sleep.  Before I knew it - I was shopping like I didn't have Charlie with me and the cart was growing out of control.  Thankfully target has help out - who knew? It's never been offered to me until I had a huge cart and was toting a tiny baby.

After successful shopping I decided to walk downtown. Walking is supposed to help with sleep deprivation (especially if done in the sunlight) and with the frustration of crying babies. Of course Charlie wanted to eat as I was parking but I just found a secluded shady space and then we were off again. Charlie slept in the carrier for the most part (again!) with a little fussing here and there because I would stop walking to look at something.  The downtown loop is a familiar one because Jose would walk with me when I was pregnant.  It's much easier now that I'm NOT prego despite the fact that I'm still carrying the weight of the baby plus 3 more pounds.

I know to all of those reading who don't have kids that this seems REALLY simple but it's been a big feat. Having a tiny baby out and needing to run errands/pick up a bunch of stuff makes you feel like you need someone else with you all the time.  It's been a good morning for this formerly fiercely independent woman...
