Well....here are the logistics - it was definitely easier the 2nd time around:
Flights - Southwest Airlines
Jose travels for work frequently and since Charlie has been born has tried to do more "day" trips so that he doesn't have to stay the night away from home. He flies so much that he earned a "companion pass" so that I can fly free with him for a year. Charlie can fly free until two years of age with a "lap ticket" which requires us to check in before every flight (rather than just going to the kiosk to check our bags). You can get your baby "age verified" by showing his/her birth certificate and then if/when you purchase a plane ticket can check in online - we're not purchasing tickets for Charlie though at this time.
Luggage:
Southwest currently does not charge for the 1st or 2nd checked bag which is a bonus.
1 suitcase - Allie & Charlie
1 suitcase - carry on size for Jose
1 bag - Charlie's car seat & extra base (we leave our primary base buckled in our car for quick return loading...so glad I bought one used for $20)
1 bag - Charlie's travel crib - baby bjorn....love it!
Carry- on's:
Regular Diaper Bag: diaper change essentials, 2 extra outfits, 2 toys, tylenol, camera, my wallet/cell, paci to gnaw on, ziplocs for dirty clothes, nursing cover, extra shirt for mom (for untimely spit up)
Back Pack with our baby bjorn, extra blanket, etc.
Stroller and stroller bag to check at the gate.
All this and a lot of patience gets the job done :-) We try to allow ourselves more time to get there and get settled and obviously Charlie does better when our travel times don't coincide with his eat/sleep times.
